Aaron's KP30 'Toyota 1000'
quote: "It is a KP30 chassis, built from 1974-1978 I think. The
standard KP30 "Toyota 1000" 2-door saloon shared the 2K engine and K40 gearbox
with the Starlet, but with rear leaf springs rather than coils.
There was an estate (wagon?) and pickup versions with same engine/gearbox. I think in some
countries it was called a "Publica"?
Very few parts interchange with other models. Front indicator/sidelight unit is the same
as a '71-'74 Corolla but without the chrome surround and that's about it.
"I replaced the original 2K engine and K40 'box with a 4K and K50, then when it
wasn't my day-to-day transport anymore, I fitted a 4A-GE with T-VIS and T50 'box from a
1986 AE86
Mine has been modified (by myself) with:-
4A-GE engine with T-VIS from Corolla AE86
T50 gearbox from AE86
engine oil filter relocated on inner wing
oil cooler from Corolla AE92
Daihatsu diesel radiator
Peugeot cooling fan on front of radiator, blowing into engine bay
battery relocated in boot (trunk)
AE86 fuel pump fitted in modified standard fuel tank
home-made inlet trunking with foam air-filter
home-made down-pipes
home-made 2" exhaust from downpipes back
home-made front strut brace
one-off front coil springs lowered 1", uprated 25% on struts uprated 15%
modified rear leaf springs lowered 1", uprated 25% with new standard dampers
nylon rear suspension bushes by a guy in work
Ford steel wheels 5x13 front 5.5x13 rear with 185/60x13 tyres
standard rear axle for now, AE86 axle waiting to be narrowed
Girling racing brake master cylinder with remote reservoir
239mm vented discs from a Ford with AP 4-piston calipers
home-made clutch master cylinder mounting under dashboard
AE86 master cylinder using remote reservoir
stainless steel braided hoses for all hydraulics
home-made caliper mounts, engine mounts, gearbox crossmember
one-off prop-shaft made by local engineering works
shortened AE86 gear lever with alloy gear-knob by another guy in work
Cobra bucket seats with home-made mounts
Smiths tacho in place of combination fuel/water temp gauge in original dash
alloy centre console with water temp, fuel, voltmeter, oil pressure gauges
alloy/leather 3-spoke steering wheel found on an old Celica
Sparco alloy pedals
With a lightly-tuned 4K engine and K50 gearbox, it could wheelspin in 3rd gear on wet
roads. The 4A-GE engine seems lighter as the front suspension has lifted noticeably since
the swap.
Great to see ur oldskool toyota been modified extensively. keep up the good work
